Spoff is an independent Romanian ready-to-wear fashion brand launching its debut Soft Power S/S 2017 collection at NYFW this September. Brainchild of creative duo Laura Bonciu and Patricia Adăscăliței coming from Bucharest, Romania, the line seeks to become a stream of self-expression for young people who stand out in a crowd in spontaneous, effortless style.
Soft Power S/S 2017 is inspired from performance sportswear, contemporary art and a new form of feminism. It also explores border areas between fashion and the shifting cultural climate in a world that becomes increasingly open-minded towards equality and embracing emotions. The collection presents more than 27 pieces defined by a modern blend of minimalism that convey a sense of softness, combining textures with reductive shapes and bleached-out near-pastels.
There is a subversive playfulness underlying within this collection, originating from the way natural fabrics merge with neoprene, transparent PVC and oversized stones. A palette of aero blue, celeste, pink bubble gum, cameo pink and cotton candy convey the young and joyful spirit of the young creative duo. The proposed looks are simple, comfortable, accessible and modern, with a touch of lollipop.
Silhouettes follow a minimal aesthetic, reinterpreting classic shapes and bearing an ‘in-between’ message. From oversized bombers to hoodies, jumpsuits, floor-length skirts and flared dresses, layers build to either blur gender or underline the depth of feminine power. Texture and detail come forward, while colour contrasts seek out to support gender-free assertiveness. Large frilly touches add a note of humour and romantic fuzziness to the overall approach to identity.
Intelligently shaped for an all-inclusive world, Soft Power sees a future for all those who have the courage to step outside and go out to shake up the establishment with a look that’s all their own.
Spoff is Laura Bonciu and Patricia Adăscăliței. Both graduated from the National University of Arts in Bucharest, Romania, but only met in 2015, while being involved in a commercial design project for Romanian Design Week. They connected over a shared passion for aesthetics and subversive use of materials and went on to create two collections together under a different project before presenting their first capsule appearance as Spoff at Feeric Fashion Week in Romania earlier this year. Spoff shows its Soft Power S/S 2017 collection for the first time at New York Fashion Week in September 2016.
